If you work from home, are you actually taking a lunch break? Or are you just sitting in front of your work setup, playing on your phone, or worse—still working? Lunchtime should be about refueling and recharging. One of the best ways to do that is by stepping away from your screen. For me, that means stretching out on the couch for a quick 20-minute nap, just enough to rest my eyes and reset. Giving yourself a break from staring at your monitor and phone not only keeps you Staying #dayclubready, but it’s also proven to reduce stress and boost productivity for the afternoon.
A Napping Routine That Sticks
I swear by lunchtime naps, and not just since the WFH days which started back in January of this year. I’ve been taking power naps since my first job out of college in the late ’90s—back when I had to retreat to my car to get that midday shut-eye. Windshield shade in place, driver’s seat reclined, pillow and blanket ready—20 minutes was all I needed to tackle the “second shift,” or the last half of my workday. Sure, summer was brutal, meaning a shorter nap, but trust me, if I didn’t get my rest, I’d turn into a cranky bitch, the opposite of an icon. Even if I didn’t fall asleep, the pure silence and zero human interaction were enough to keep me sane.
